What is a niche market? In simple terms, it is a specific area of the market at which a particular product is aimed with the product being designed to meet the requirements of that market. So, what do I mean by working your niche market and why would I tell you to work it?

Well, at a recent seminar there were over 70 people and they were all in non-competing niche markets, most of them with a potential market of a hundred million dollars apiece. There is a vast array of possible niche markets, each of which can be worked like a gold seam, to a great depth.

Ill explain more in a moment, but first I want you to avoid making a common mistake. Dont work a niche in a halfhearted way and then abandon that rich gold seam for another, unrelated niche. The trick is to find your niche; work the niche to its full depth and to concentrate your efforts only on that one rich seam. Avoid flitting about or spreading your time too thinly.

Here is an example of such a niche. There was a doctor at the seminar who is amassing a huge personal fortune from his books, audio tapes, video tapes and seminars – all neatly packaged and well marketed. What is this outstanding new message requiring hours of tape and hundreds of thousands of words to explain? It is simply this: Drink More Water. All very logical, and who could argue with such a message, but he fully expects to clear ten million from it. Much more if he really gets his act together. He is not even advocating drinking more bottled water just plain old tap water!

This guy is really working his niche. He is not diluting his efforts by dropping or sidelining his gold mine and going into other niche markets, related or otherwise. He is concentrating solely on his chosen, highly profitable, niche. I hope you can see the importance of this.

You need to start thinking about what YOUR niche market could possibly be. If you find it then you will have a virtual doorway to riches which will open before you. You are a unique person with a unique set of skills and experiences. So, start getting your brain into gear to think about what YOU could do. You must be able to come up with something with more substance than Drink More Water.

Think about what skills and experience you already have and where you can employ them to the best effect. By making the most of existing abilities you will speed up the whole process and greatly improve your chances of success. If it is something which you are particularly interested in, or even passionate about, so
much the better!

Bear in mind that a niche market does not necessarily mean a small market. What is the potential for simply selling the idea of drinking more water? The number of potential customers runs into many hundreds of millions. The niche aspect comes from the tiny segment which you decide to select from the vast array of products and services available. There are millions upon millions of products and services and each one is a niche.

Remember the secret to success: find your niche, work it to the full and drink more water!

Niche product marketing comes in two stages, first finding the niche and then it’s about traffic, traffic, traffic. You have your blogs, Squidoo lens etc all going on so you just need to get people to actually check them out. How do I get traffic? It’s one of the most asked questions in marketing. You may have heard of SEO’s, pays per click, just to mention a couple. These all boil down to time and money. Twitter is a way to do your niche product marketing free and easily.

However there is a right way to use Twitter for your niche product marketing. Its no good tweeting all day if no-ones listening. You need to get together an audience that are actually interested in your niche in the first place. If you already have a Twitter account running you will know that your live post stays there for a matter of seconds, thats all you get. Your followers are vital. Its no use having thousands of followers if only a small handful, if any, are actually interested in your niche.

If you are an internet marketer with a number of different niches, so that you don’t confuse or ‘put-off’ your followers you need to look at setting up a twitter account for every niche separately. This will ensure when someone checks out your profile its all about the same niche (subject). If a follower checks out your profile only to find that you have about 20 different niche subjects going on, it will put them in the mind that you are a ‘jack of all trades but master of none’ kind of twitterer. It will clearly show that you maybe aren’t as experienced as maybe the follower first thought on that subject. How can you be? You have 20 different things going on. Whilst Twitter is an excellent way for niche product marketing, it needs to be used correctly or you are just wasting your time and energy.

What an E-book Can Do for You

An E-book that includes your marketing message and a link to your website is a proven technique in viral marketing. This method uses the multiplication effect to “explode” the distribution of your message by willing participants.

This is the basic principle that was used by Hotmail to get established. When the two founders set up their free email system, all the messages that were sent by subscribers had a text message at the bottom which identified Hotmail as the origin. People who sent emails to their friends advertised the free email site.

Using viral E-books as a marketing method is cheap. It doesn’t take long to set up and it’s even quicker if you use rebrandable E-books that have been written by others. Just use your favorite search engine and do a web search. You will find many rebrandable E-books that are available on whatever subject you are interested in and that apply to your e-business. One method of distributing the E-book is to offer it to visitors in exchange for subscribing to your newsletter. If they pass it on to their friends and family it will promote your business for you.

E-books are capable of reaching a large audience and are limited only by the enthusiasm of the participants.

E-books are fairly easy to create. It’s possible to produce your own E-books by combining articles that you have written or have gotten from public domain sources, such as directories.

A common approach is to use material that has Private Label Rights, including articles and reports that have been written specifically for that purpose, for that niche. Using a portion of a larger work that you have prepared such as the first three chapters of a large E-book could also be used as a viral E-book.
